If you’re here to check out the early odds for Week 1 of the NFL Preseason, which is still a handful of days away and may not feature too many starters, I don’t have to explain how great it felt watching Davis Mills and Tyson Bagent go at it in the Hall of Fame Game. Obviously, it would have been even better if it was CJ Stroud vs Caleb Williams (and the rest of the starters for both teams), but it was football and damn it got the juices flowing!
Thankfully, as I mentioned, we don’t have to wait too long for some more football, as Week 1 of the NFL Preseason kicks off Thursday, August 8th and we get games each of the next three days as well. Sportsbooks have already opened the betting lines for all 16 games in Week 1, which you can find below!

The heaviest favorite in Week 1 of the NFL Preseason is the New York Giants, who are laying 3.5 points at home against the Detroit Lions. Every other spread is three points or less because we’re set to watch backups and third-stringers take the field, while every team is very likely to rest their starters.

If you’re wondering why the Giants are more than a field goal favorite, it’s because Detroit will send Hendon Hooker out under center. The second-year QB did not play at all last preseason due to injury, and he reportedly had a bad showing at OTAs – though, that was apparently due to injury as well.
The Giants, on the other hand, will be sending Drew Lock out at QB. Lock is arguably a top-five backup QB in the NFL right now, and many Giants fans are even calling for him to start over Daniel Jones.

The biggest total in Week 1 of the NFL Preseason is 38.5 in the Chiefs vs Jaguars game. If you’re wondering why all the over/unders are so low, it’s (again) because starters are not expected to play and offenses also typically take a little longer to start enjoying success. The Chiefs vs Jaguars total being the highest of the week should come as no surprise if you look at both team’s backup QBs. Kansas City will be led by Carson Wentz, who was once the NFL MVP front-runner prior to a season-ending injury, while the Jaguars offense will be led by Mac Jones, who has started 42 games over his first three years in the league and made a Pro Bowl.
The lowest total is 34 in both the Panthers vs Patriots and Commanders vs Jets games. Both Carolina and New England have gone through a ton of change on offense after awful seasons last year. Though New York may have solved their offensive line issues from last season, their depth up front (the players we will see in this game) is still a major concern. Things also look a lot different for Washington on the offensive side of the ball, with Kliff Kingsbury installing his offense and a brand new QB room. It should also be mentioned that three of the four teams mentioned have very defensive-minded head coaches.

NFL Preseason Picks for Week 1
I am not locking anything in just yet. I want to wait until we get some confirmation that no starters will be suiting up, and that second-stringers will be. However, I am going to be keeping a close eye on the following:
Ravens Moneyline – Baltimore is just a very well-coached team from top to bottom. It’s the reason they ripped off 24 straight preseason victories. I don’t care that the streak is over now. They’re going to come into this game prepared.Steelers Moneyline – If we get Justin Fields under center (for a reasonable amount of time) for Pittsburgh, I like him to outplay Davis Mills, assuming we don’t get CJ Stroud.Saints/Cardinals Under 36.5 – I don’t have much faith in any of the QBs we expect to see in this matchup. I feel the only way this total goes over is from turnovers, specifically pick-sixes.
